Deskwatch ("Deskwatch", "the app", "we", "us") is a menu bar app for macOS that uses your Mac's built-in camera to notice when someone is in front of it while you are away, and sends you an alert. It is published by Webgrup, Türkiye. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and what choices you have.
In Short
- Deskwatch has no accounts and no sign-up, and we run no servers for the app. We do not receive your photos, videos, settings or any personal data.
- All camera analysis (Apple Vision) happens on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded to us.
- Alerts go to your own Telegram bot. The bot token is yours and is stored in your Mac's Keychain; we never see it.
- Photos and (Pro) videos go only to your own Telegram chat or to a folder or external drive that you choose.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the app.
- The app is free; Deskwatch Pro is a one-time purchase handled by Apple. We never see your payment data.
- The camera indicator light of your Mac turns on whenever the camera is used. Deskwatch is not a hidden-surveillance tool.
Who Is Responsible
Deskwatch is published by Webgrup, Türkiye. Contact: [email protected]. Because the app sends nothing to us, Webgrup holds no profile or content of yours. Telegram and Apple process data under their own policies, as described below.
Data That Stays on Your Mac
- Settings (detection sensitivity, cooldown, arming mode, destinations, language, and similar) in the app's preferences.
- Telegram bot token, chat identifier and the live view access code, stored in the macOS Keychain.
- Event history: small thumbnails of recent alerts (the last 20 events in the free version, more in Pro) with their time, and, for Pro, short video clips kept up to a size limit so you can replay them in the app. You can turn the history off in Settings. Deleting the app removes it.
- Temporary files: video clips are written to the app's private storage while recording and are deleted after delivery or at the next launch.
- Videos on a drive you choose: if you pick a folder or external drive, Deskwatch saves files there and remembers the folder through a macOS security-scoped bookmark. Those files are yours and are not managed by us.
- Pro status: a local flag in the Keychain so the app knows Pro is unlocked while offline.
We cannot see any of this. A backup you make yourself (for example Time Machine or iCloud) may include some of it under that provider's rules.
Camera and Microphone
- Camera: used to detect whether a person is in front of the Mac. Frames are analyzed in memory on your Mac; only when an event is confirmed does the app take a photo (and, in Pro, a video) and deliver it as you configured. The camera is used only while protection is on, when you ask for a photo or live view, or while the live view page is being watched.
- Microphone (optional): used only if you turn on Record audio for video clips. It is off by default. Sound is delivered together with the video, in the same way.
- macOS shows its green camera indicator when the camera is active, and the Deskwatch menu bar icon shows whether protection is on.
- Deskwatch does not identify or recognize people. It only detects that a person-shaped presence is there.
Telegram
Deskwatch sends alerts through the Telegram Bot API using a bot that you create with Telegram's BotFather:
- The app connects to Telegram's servers (api.telegram.org) over an encrypted HTTPS connection to send photos, videos and messages to your chat, and, if you enable remote commands (Pro), to receive your commands (for example /bak, /canli, /kaydet, /dur, /durum) from that same chat. Messages from other chats are ignored.
- Content you send to Telegram is stored and processed by Telegram under its own terms and privacy policy (https://telegram.org/privacy). Bot API messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Telegram is not our service and we have no access to your bot or chat.
- If you do not want content to go to Telegram, do not set up a bot. Deskwatch has no other alert channel.
- You can stop all delivery at any time by turning protection off, removing the token in Settings, or deleting the bot with BotFather.
Live View on Your Local Network (Pro)
If you turn on live view, Deskwatch runs a small web page on your Mac that other devices on the same local network can open in a browser using an access code. It accepts connections only from private local addresses, is not published to the internet, and stops after the last viewer leaves. Deskwatch uses your Mac's local network address to show the link; it does not store your location or send the address anywhere. Do not forward ports on your router to this page.
Purchases
Deskwatch Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Apple through StoreKit. Apple handles payment, receipts and restoring purchases under the Apple Privacy Policy (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/). We receive no payment data and no purchase identity; the app only checks with Apple whether Pro is unlocked. Apple may provide us with aggregated sales or crash statistics through App Store Connect under its own rules.
Permissions
macOS may ask for: Camera (detect presence and take photos or video), Microphone (only if you enable audio), Local Network (only for live view), Login Items (only if you turn on "start at login"), and folder access (only for the folder or drive you pick). Deskwatch does not ask for your location, contacts, photos library, calendar or files outside what you choose.
Your Responsibility When Others May Be Recorded
Deskwatch is meant to protect your own device and your own space. If someone else may be recorded (a roommate, family member, colleague, guest or customer), the laws where you are (such as the GDPR, the KVKK in Türkiye and workplace or privacy laws elsewhere) may require notice, a legitimate reason or consent. Complying with these laws is your responsibility, not ours. Do not use Deskwatch for covert surveillance, to record places where people expect privacy, or to record people without the legally required notice. Do not turn off or hide the camera light or the menu bar icon.
Sharing and International Transfers
We do not sell personal data, and the app sends nothing to us. Data leaves your Mac only to Telegram (the destination you configured), to Apple (purchase checks) and to the folder or drive you choose. Telegram and Apple may process data in other countries, including the United States, under their own safeguards. If you use Deskwatch in Türkiye and send content of other people to Telegram, KVKK Article 9 transfer rules may apply to you as the person deciding the purpose of that content.
Retention
Data on your Mac stays until you change settings, turn off the history or delete the app. Content already sent to Telegram stays under Telegram's rules and your control in your own chat; delete it there. Files saved to your drive stay until you delete them.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR (EEA), the UK GDPR, the KVKK (Türkiye, Law No. 6698, Article 11), the CCPA/CPRA (California) and the LGPD (Brazil): access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection, portability, and complaint to a supervisory authority (in Türkiye, the Personal Data Protection Board). Since we hold no data about you, you control your data yourself: turn off the history, delete the app, delete messages in your Telegram chat, and delete files from your drive. For questions or requests, write to [email protected]. We reply within 30 days; we hold no account data, so we may be unable to identify you.
Children
Deskwatch is a general-purpose utility, is not directed at children and has no child accounts. We do not knowingly collect children's data.
Security
Deskwatch runs in the macOS App Sandbox, keeps secrets in the Keychain, uses HTTPS to talk to Telegram and runs no backend. No method is completely secure. Protect your Mac with a login password, keep your bot token private and use a strong live view access code.
Changes
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version. For material changes we will give notice in the app or on this page.
