Frequently Asked Questions
What does FieldShot do?
FieldShot takes photos and videos and prints a stamp on them: coordinates, address, date and time, compass heading, altitude, tilt, an optional note and project name. You can organize media in project folders, view them on a map, and export to KML, KMZ, CSV or PDF. It targets construction, insurance adjusting, inspection, agriculture and real estate work.
How do I customize the stamp?
Open Settings. You can choose the template, put the stamp at the top or bottom, change its opacity and text size, pick the coordinate format (decimal degrees, degrees-minutes-seconds, or degrees-decimal minutes), units (metric or imperial), and date and time formats. You can show or hide the address, altitude, heading, tilt, note, mini map and project name. Changes apply to new photos; existing photos are not changed.
How accurate is the GPS? Why does it say "no location"?
Accuracy comes from your phone's GPS and typically ranges from a few meters outdoors to tens of meters near buildings or indoors. FieldShot is not a survey-grade instrument. If the stamp says there is no location, check that location permission is set to "While Using the App", that Location Services is on, and that you have a clear view of the sky. Wait a few seconds for a fix. Altitude and compass heading also depend on the device sensors; calibrate the compass by moving the phone in a figure-eight.
Does FieldShot work offline?
Yes. Capturing, stamping, projects and exports work without internet, because the GPS does not need a connection. Without internet the street address may be missing, because address lookup uses Apple or Google. Coordinates are still stamped. Maps may not load tiles offline.
I denied a permission. How do I turn it back on?
On iOS, open Settings > FieldShot and enable Camera, Microphone, Location (choose "While Using the App"), Photos and Motion & Fitness as needed. On Android, open Settings > Apps > FieldShot > Permissions. Camera and location are needed for stamped photos. The microphone is needed only for video sound.
Where are my photos stored? Are they backed up?
Photos and videos are stored on your device, in the app's own storage. If you enable saving to the photo library in Settings, copies also appear in Photos (iOS) or the gallery (Android). We do not upload them anywhere, so we cannot restore them. Deleting the app deletes its stored data. To keep your work safe, turn on saving to the photo library, export your projects, and use your device backup (iCloud or Google).
How do I open a KML or KMZ file in Google Earth?
Export the project as KML or KMZ and share it to yourself (email, Files, Drive). Open the file with Google Earth (mobile or desktop: File > Open). Each photo appears as a placemark with its time, address and note. KMZ also contains reduced-size photos. Videos are listed as points but are not embedded in KMZ.
CSV shows broken characters in Excel. What do I do?
FieldShot writes CSV as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so Excel should show accented and non-Latin characters correctly when you open the file directly. If you still see garbled text, use Excel's Data > From Text/CSV and choose UTF-8 as the file origin. Values are separated by commas and decimals use a dot. If your regional settings expect semicolons, import with comma as the delimiter.
How do I create a PDF report?
Open a project, tap Export, choose PDF, and select the photos. The PDF has a cover page, photos with coordinates, address, heading and notes, and a summary table. Large projects are split into several PDF parts. Free PDFs carry a small FieldShot footer watermark. You can remove it for one PDF by watching a rewarded ad.
Are videos stamped too?
Yes. The stamp is burned into the video file, and values such as time and position update about once per second. Processing takes some time after you stop recording, and it needs the app to stay open, so keep the app in the foreground until it finishes. You can choose 720p or 1080p in Settings. The GPS position is also saved in the video's metadata.
Why do I see ads? What are rewarded ads?
FieldShot is free and supported by Google AdMob ads. Banners appear on the Gallery, Projects and Settings screens, and sometimes a full-screen ad appears after an export. There are none on the camera screen. A rewarded ad is optional: watching one unlocks premium stamp templates for 24 hours or removes the watermark from one PDF. On iOS you choose whether to allow tracking for personalized ads. In the EU, UK and Switzerland a consent form appears, and you can change it later in Settings.
How do I delete my data?
FieldShot has no account and no server, and Webgrup receives no data from the app. Your photos, locations and notes exist only on your device. To delete everything, delete the app and remove copies from Photos or the gallery. Data that Google processes for ads is governed by Google's policies; you can limit it with the consent option in Settings, the iOS tracking setting or your Android advertising settings (see the Privacy Policy). Questions: [email protected].
Does FieldShot have in-app purchases or a subscription?
No. FieldShot is free. There are no purchases or subscriptions.
Can I use the photos as legal evidence?
FieldShot gives you timestamped, geotagged images, but we cannot guarantee that a court, insurer or authority will accept them as evidence. Position and time depend on the device. Ask the party concerned about its requirements.
